Comment: Over all the swamp and fen communities on this unit are in relatively good condition, The areas of MG8, S4, S28 and W1 within this unit meet the targets within the FCT for habitat composition, quality and extent. The local distinctive features such as open water bodies and areas of Bog woodland were also present. However areas of the S28 especially along Hay Brook have infestations on Himalayan Balsam so failing objectives. The areas of wet grassland are already showing singes of improvement, with the change in grazing intensity and type plus re-wetting works. It was clear from the walk over that areas of S28 within this grassland area were in fact degraded MG8 and relic areas of this meadow community can still be seen within the matrix. Work is planned to restore some of the S28 back to GM8. The total BTO score calculated for a breeding bird assemblage has fallen by the equivalent of 25% relative to baseline therefore the assemblage is in unfavourable. A new management plan has been implemented to address over grazing and wetland restoration works began to restore areas of damaged habitat. Unit is now unfavourable recovering.
