The wildfire of 2018 that covered around 300ha has pushed Gidleigh Common back in terms of its trajectory to recovery. High browsing pressure following the burn combined with a lack of +ve indicator species cover are both issues. The fire has also removed any variation in age structure across large tracts of the common. this will take time to re-establish.
