Condition assessment comment:

Tree clearance in 2014 from 0.5ha of the central mire area has allowed abundant Bog-bean, Marsh Cinquefoil, Yellow Flag-iris, Carex elata, Water-violet, Bittersweet and Marsh Bedstraw amongst others to flourish. Despite the dry summer open water was still present which had attracted Mallard, their feeding actions leading to churned sediment in the water. Salix cinerea is regrowing but at the moment is small scattered bushes. Bulrush is occasional but does not appear to be a threat to species richness at present. Further tree clearance to control regrowth and clear more of the historically open area would be beneficial, although this is difficult to achieve due to ground conditions. Old drains are still present on site and although have been unmaintained for some time are likely to still be influencing hydrology.
