Comment: The unit lies mostly in the hollow that is formed between the two major shingle ridges found in this part of the site. The main feature of special interest is the fossil geomorphology which appears to be largely intact although there has been extensive disturbance in the past to create a series of drainage ditches. There is no evidence of recent damage to the fossil geomorphology. There is clear differentiation between the shingle ridges and the intervening hollow. The vegetation of the lower parts reflects the wetter conditions found in this part. It is made up of stands of reed alongside the ditches and grassland typical of wetter areas. Small areas of dry shingle ridge vegetation are present on the north and south sides of the shingle ridges. These include good quality dry grassland with characteristic plants such as bent grass, sheep?s sorrel, English stonecrop, and bryophyte/lichen mats with occasional thrift. There is evidence of past disturbance to the shingle ridge in the SW corner of this unit. This has occurred as a result of the movement of shingle and the tracking across the surface, presumably associated with the creation of a bund along the roadside.
