Comment: The coastal processes need to function along the full SSSI shoreline. Unit 183 plays a part in the overall SSSI frontage. The shoreline drift works from West to East moving shingle along the coast ? an important geomorphological feature of the SSSI designation which underpins the vegetated shingle habitats. The Power Station shingle bund has been managed on site by Station B (on behalf of both stations A and B) for flood protection. Shingle recharge has not occurred for 4 winters since winter 2008/2009. Over this time period Station B has been utilising a storage of surpus shingle that makes up part of the bund. Consented shingle recharge and reprofiling activity in winter months ? recharge and reprofiling of bund is carried out as necessary. The Unit lies on the SW facing eroding coastline. Erosion at the western end of the shingle bund is exposing the tarmac road that runs along behind the bund. Tarmac and concrete blocks are being exposed and broken up by storm action. This is being distributed along the foreshore westerly towards the Denge Marsh road location.
