Unit 175

A site visit in preparation for meetings to be held with Bretts, Kent County Council Romney Marsh Area IDB and EA was made using PRoW.

The current permissions held by Bretts Aggregates are well underway and their excavation work is being carried out within Unit 175.

This is in Area 11 and 12 that are referred to in planning documentation.

The water outfall at the Kent Pen Wall could be clearly seen to be fully running – discharging water at a good pace into the Jury’s Gut Sewer.

This is an operation that has raised a number of concerns from neighbouring landowners and organisations operating in the area. The site visit confirmed the areas being worked currently and the outfall location and operation.

The areas of land that are managed under HLS agreements were seen from the PROW and the SSSI interest seen to be maintained in favourable condition. This is essentially the buried geomorphology.

Bird species such as Mute Swan were observed to be using functional land for feeding and roosting. Up to 33 swan observed on the fields surrounding the shingle exctraction site.
