This is sheep-grazed pasture with naturally undulating topography with occasional rush tussocks. Of particular importance here is the ditch network and previous survey has identified the rare beetle Badister collaris, a species associated with shallow ditches. Areas of shallow water and ephemeral ditches are present so the area appears to continue to provide suitable conditions for this species. Some of the ditches are broad and deep and managed by the Internal Drainage Board. Others are less frequently managed with degrees of dominance by common reed. However, most of the margins are open to grazing which helps to maintain short, species-rich margins. Of particular note is the presence of the uncommon plant marsh mallow in many places. No negative indicators were noted. |
