Comment: Targets for the various attributes are being met: Extent of feature: No loss noted. Water levels: Level in all ditches above minimum of 50cm. Water clarity: very good in the majority of ditches. Extent of algal dominance: at an acceptable level. Successional stage of the ditches: 97% of the ditches in mid successional stage. Approx 30% of the ditches have hard grazed banks which is limiting the cover of bankside vegetation species such as Althaea and Sium. However, a number of other ditches have been fenced off on one side which helps to protect the vegetation. Degree of heavy shading of ditches: none of the ditches are heavily shaded. Ditch profiles: Most of the ditches have non trapezoidal profile. Botanical species diversity: acceptable with a mean number of species of 6.1 recorded for 6 sample points. This is above the minimum of 5 for brackish ditches. Non native plants: None noted. Indicators of local distinctiveness: Lemna trisulca, Scirpus maritimus, Ceratophyllum submersum, Oenanthe fistulosa, Myriophyllum spicatum present.
