Comment: This unit is three small artificial ponds surrounded by species-rich grassland and dry lichen heath. All three are currently in good condition. The southernmost pond is the largest and is surrounded by low fringing scrub of grey willow and gorse. However, the margins of the pond are not heavily shaded and both emergent and aquatic vegetation is present. Plants noted include water milfoil, club rush and water plantain. The two other ponds have more open margins although some willow scrub is developing. Water quality in all three ponds appeared to be good with very clear conditions. Surveyed in detail in 2009 and all of the ponds are currently in suitable condition to support great crested newts. The condition of the ponds is likely to change due to encroachment of reeds and shading by trees. Whilst not a problem at the moment these ponds would benefit from checking every three years to assess if habitat management is required (excavation of willows and coppicing of scrub shading the pond margins).
