Estimated year unit will go Favourable: Confidence in estimate:
Comment: The unit supports extensive areas of bare shingle in the process of recovery following historical damage, presumably associated with the creation of a marginal bund. More recent damage is very localised and the vast majority of the shingle is stable and showing signs of vegetation recovery. Despite the indications of significant historical damage the fossil ridge topography is still evident, at least in parts, and good quality shingle vegetation is present. Comments on individual attributes: There is no evidence of recent loss of extent of the vegetated shingle feature. The vegetation shows the desired transition from bare shingle through to the dry vegetation associated with the stabilised shingle. The vegetation is generally associated with the margins of the unit and includes the typical range of plants such as wood sage, sea campion and bryophyte/lichen mats. There is no evidence of significant threat posed by non-native or undesirable plants, and there is no significant risk of loss of habitat due to scrub development at present. Fossil ridge topography is evident along the south eastern margins of the unit but has been irretrievably lost due to major disturbance of the shingle over a significant proportion of the area.
