Comment: The unit suffers from invasive species on the shingle (valerian, silver ragwort). These are being addressed through an HLS. The consent for the extraction of shingle from the shoreline at the Dungeness Borrow Pit ended in August 2007. There is no current consent from Kent County Council for this operation. Natural coastal processes are now operating again and the accretion on the eastern shoreline is uninterrupted. The accretion allows for the build up of the new ridges that will support the early successional phases of the vegetated shingle, as well as allowing continued transport of shingle northwards to other frontages.
