Comment: This unit consists of the shingle ridges, associated shingle vegetation and invertebrates and geomorphology. There is historical disturbance of the ridges due to pylons. Some of the less disturbed shingle ridges were fenced off due to overgrazing as part of a SWES agreement with a management regime requiring light grazing 1 winter in 3. Some of these ridges have recovered however gorse is beginning to obscure the relief and some of the shingle vegetation in some areas. This is particularly evident on the ridge located to the extreme south east of this unit. It appears that the grazing requirements were not fully implemented as part of the SWES agreement. Future management will need to encompass a programme of mechanical gorse control.
