Comment: The unit includes the southern part of one of the major shingle ridges. It has been subject to gross disturbance in the past and there is on-going, localised damage. Much of the shingle is now undisturbed and showing signs of vegetation recolonisation with the exception of areas used for training serials. The fossil geomorphology has been significantly affected by the movement of shingle associated with the operation of the training range. The ridge topography has been irretrievably lost in parts of the area. However, it is still possible to detect the pattern of ridge crests over the majority of the unit. Recent damage is more localised and mostly associated with the operation of targets. The unit includes some areas with very good examples of dry shingle ridge vegetation. Some remarkably well-developed areas of lichen-dominated vegetation are present. The vegetation includes the characteristic range of plants such as sea campion, sheep?sbit, sheep?s sorrel, English stonecrop and thrift. No significant threats to the feature were noted.
