Comment: The unit is occupied by shingle ridge and supports good examples of dry shingle vegetation. There is evidence of both historic and recent disturbance of the shingle but the fossil geomorphology is for the most part intact. A deep channel has been cut through the centre of the ridge. There is also localised disturbance of shingle associated with maintenance of targets. Overall, however, the fossil geomorphology is in good condition. The vegetation on the shingle ridge differs in character to that further north. There is much more bare, stable shingle with patches of lichen/bryophyte mat and associated species include sheep?sbit, mouse-ear hawkweed, sheep?s fescue and sea campion. Of particular note is the occurrence of very low, wind-sculpted bushes of blackthorn and a few plants of polypody fern growing in the shingle. The vegetation is in good condition.
