Comment: The land to the east of the road comprises dry heath and a blanket bog mosaic, which is generally in fairly good condition; however there is some evidence of localised suppression and fragmentation. The southern plateau of dry heath to the west of the road is also in good condition, however does lack in species diversity. Weather Hill slopes quite steeply to Stanhope Burn. The upper slopes have a reasonable cover of heather which shows some signs of suppression. The heath becomes more fragmented the lower down the hill you go, with some stands of soft rush, though this is mainly within or adjacent to wet flushes, which are frequent. Though the condition of the heath is not favourable and HLS agreement has now been signed to put in place sustainable management therefore the unit is assessed.
