Comment: Assessment was incorporated as part of the Article 17, SAC features only present on this unit: 1140 `Mudflats and sandflats not covered by seawater at low tide? 6 attributes cover this feature and none were fully assessed, further surveys are to follow. 1160 `Large shallow inlets and bays only 1 of the 4 attributes was assessed and met our target further surveys are to follow. 1365 `Common seal? favourable/recovering - 3,000 seals before the 2 PDV epidemics (1988 & 2000-2002). After the 1988 epidemic the seal population dropped by approx 50% increasing to 3,000 by 2000. Since 2002 population decreased by 22%. SSSI birds also SPA features found on this unit only: Assessment for this feature were based on the BTO Wetland Bird Survey alerts The Wash 2007/08 compared with the number of birds at notification Aggregations of non-breeding birds - >20,000 waterfowl not assessed Aggregations of non-breeding birds ? internationally important populations of individual species: Dark Bellied Brent Goose (+2%), Oystercatcher (-47%), grey plover (-30%), sanderling (-25%); Knot (-9%); dunlin (-48%); Bar-tailed godwit (+10%); curlew (-10%), redshank (-52%), turnstone (-69%), shelduck (-53%).
