Condition assessment comment:

UNIT 3 - Is the eastern basin’s water supply completely ombrotrophic? The hydrological reports (ECUS 1999) seem to say that it is – but surely there is an element of surface water running off the gentle slopes at the eastern end of the SSSI, coming down from the woodland in unit 3 and the grassland at SK0356 2811 (unit 8). Or does this just feed the lagg? Ditch blocking required? See what Rob Low recommends? Is an HRA of the pheasant pen/rearing needed? Pheasants actively target reptiles (e.g. eating young, pecking the eyes from snakes). Is the reptile/adder population healthy?
