Comment:

Fen meadows have responded well to tree clearance from the edge of the mere; to bed level raising on the outlet and have benefited from cattle grazing. This has now changed to sheep grazing which will not be so effective in creating open, varied structure in the rush dominated areas but may be helpful on the drier sandy banks. Herbicide treatment of ragwort in the past has probably led to reduced botanical diversity on both the wet peaty areas and the dry sandy banks.
