The criteria features of this unit are restricted to the marshy areas of the field which had a range of indicator species including Succisa pratensis and Filipendula ulmaria and was being cattle grazed at time of survey. Landowners confirmed that willow removal and cattle grazing has taken place for the last few years and it was evident that cattle have bark stripped and killed some of the remaining Salix which have encroached the fen meadow. However further removal of Salix sp and Alder which have encroached would benefit the fen rush pasture by reducing shading and evapotranspiration. Drains were evident delivering field drainage from surrounding farmland, including from the other side of the railway, to the ring ditch around the west side of Oss Mere wood and had significant amounts of Iron ochre precipitates. The majority of the field is dry and sandy with frequent ragwort. Cattle drink from a pond and there is a drain which takes the overflow towards the mere.
