Comment: A condition assessment was undertaken in accordance with CSM on the 7th March. This unit consists of an area of degraded bog on the flat plateau. The grazing level was found to be around 30% so it was marginal, but a significant improvement on the last CSM assessment. The species diversity is limited in some areas, however with the lower stocking levels this should improve over time. There several active drains and these will need to be blocked. Dry heath occurs on the steeper slopes and this was found to be fragmented and heavily grazed as the stock seem to concentrate and shelter along the burn. This area would benefit from scattered tree planting. The Landowner and commoners have entered into a HLS agreement. The prescriptions will lead to a further reduction in the number of stock on this heft. In addition the landowner has agreed to an extensive programme of grip blocking work that will address these active grips and they are also keen to plant along the gully. Consequently the condition of this unit is now assessed as being in Unfavourable Recovering Condition.
