Comment: This 22.49 ha unit consists of 3 parcels to the north of a track and one larger parcel south of the track. North of the track, rush cover (mainly Juncus effusus, with extensive areas of deciduous rushes J articulatus/acutiflorus in the area bordering the Swinhope Burn) ranges from 10-25%, with short-grazed semi-improved grass; to the south of the track, rush cover ranges from 25-30%, with acidic grassland and some areas of semi-improved grass e.g. near feeder - refer to site monitoring file for map notes. The habitat is diverse and therefore suitable for a wide range of wading birds. The visit was made in the late afternoon during still and overcast conditions. 2 pairs of Lapwing and a single Lapwing were seen in the northern more improved area. A total of 4 Lapwing, 2 Snipe (not a pair) and a Curlew, were seen on the southern less improved area, although the Lapwing were associated more with the improved areas of shorter grass. The condition remains as Favourable.
