Condition assessment comment: The surviving bog habitat at the core of the moss is stable with Sphagnum papillosum, S. capillifolium cranberry, cross-leafed heath, crowberry and ling all frequent. Within areas that had scrub cleared transitional mire community has now developed, with positive indicators of recovery widespread indicating a recovery back to bog. However mire areas still largely dominated by fen sp. of sphagnum so fail this target. There is also a problem with scrub re-growth in some areas so exceeding the target level, this may indicate that water levels are not yet at the optimum level. There has been recent work on the site to raise water levels, however follow-up scrub work and water level management is still required. There are some species-rich areas of fen meadow within the lagg of this moss these areas met their objectives. The unit is considered in unfavourable recovering condition as a diffuse water pollution plan has been agreed to tackle sources of enrichment to the site.
