Condition assessment comment:

Wet woodland had varied structure, plentiful deadwood, fully saturated peat with a number of axiophytes present including Osmunda regalis, Thelypteris palustris and Cicuta virosa. The trees overhang the margin of the mere and where Phragmites communis is still present there could be some benefit in reducing canopy density to improve the emergent vegetation fringing the mere. Rhodedendron clearance was effective on the edge of the wet area of the wood with only a few young plants remaining which would be easily controlled at this stage.
