Comment: CSM visit made on 8 Aug 2007. CG2/CG4 (Bromopsis erecta is rare) with all attributes favourable except Torgrass and % cover of scrub that had reached 30-40% in two compartments (Staintons and Strip field). Regular scrub removal is carried out by Lower Mole CMP volunteers and the owner, which will be supplemented by NNR field staff in autumn/winter 2008-09. The planned removal of substantial areas of closing-in scrub prevents a change to declining condition, but this needs sustaining in combination with increased levels of grazing to control regrowth and Torgrass. Additional Torgrass control by cutting and weedwiping in Downs field is also planned /underway. 5 ponies graze extensively in winter/early spring with additional cattle a possibility for 2009.
