Comment: The comments from the previous assessment still apply. The management measures needed to address the issues of undergrazing leading to dominance by tussocky Molinia, together with scrub invasion, have been secured through an HLS agreement. The unit will be part of a larger grazing unit covering much of Upton Heath. The adverse condition relating to fire on this unit has been remedied through other mechanisms. The last fire on this unit was in 2002 and vegetation has recovered. Fires starts have reduced generally on urban heaths including Upton with measures introduced by the Urban Heaths Partnership probably at least partly responsible. Works to improve fire access are proposed on other parts of Upton. This unit, being mostly wet with much Molinia, is not as sensitive to fire as dry heath and fire risk will be reduced by the introduction of grazing secured under an HLS agreement.
