Reason for adverse condition: FRESHWATER POLLUTION - WATER POLLUTION - DISCHARGE,
Comment: A large heathland unit near the centre of the SSSI that suffered a severe fire in 2002 but has now recovered to overall favourable condition. The dry heath is dominated by abundant heather, bell heather and western gorse, with lesser amounts of bristle bent and Molinia and sparse heath milkwort. Signs of previous fire are particularly apparent in the NE part of the unit, and an area in the NW is dominated by dense Ulex gallii heath. Some rabbit grazing occurs. The unit requires extensive grazing to produce good vegetation structure and bare ground conditions in a more naturalistic manner. Consideration is required for the need to restore a silted mire which is fed from the tip. Urban effects remain a cause for concern which are not remedied as well as disturbance to birds and nutrient enrichment there are arson, motorcycling and vandalism events ongoing.
Number of adverse condition reasons: 4
