Comment: This unit is primarily dry heathland but with an area of wet heath/mire. The dry heathland is all mature with significant areas of bramble and scrub invading. There are areas of dense bracken which require treatment. There is a wide band of birch woodland along the eastern edge which requires removal to link up the dry heathland areas. bare sand is present in several areas and meets the requirement for the existing dry heath. Thus the unit fails its assessment on the extent of habitat criteria although there is evidence of ongoing management work. The wet heath/mire area is being invaded by scrub, there is calcareous water draining from the substation causing growth of reed and other untypical species such as fleabane. The habitat condition is unfavourable due to this and the dominant Molina growth which requires grazing as part of the adjacent units.
