Reason for adverse condition: LACK OF CORRECTIVE WORKS - INAPPROPRIATE SCRUB CONTROL,OTHER - OTHER - SPECIFY IN COMMENTS,
Comment: The previous comments from the 2006 assessment still apply as at the time of the visit there had been no further management on the unit. Further encroachment of trees and scrub have reduced the open area of mire to about 0.16ha or 15% of the unit. The open mire is Molinia dominated although very wet and with Sphagnum amongst the rank Molinia. The drain along the SE edge of the open area has filled in with Molinia. The drain to the north of the open area has changed to become more Sphagnum dominated. The outflow of both drains is to the east into a much more substantial ditch that runs long the northern edge of the site carrying run off from adjacent land. The outflow has become blocked with vegetation meaning that the water level in these drains seems to be held at a high level (which will help the mire) although a summer visit in dry conditions would be needed to determine if there remained any drainage effect that might be remedied. The unit would benefit from grazing to address the Molinia dominance but it may be that, if water levels can be maintained at a high level and sufficient tree and scrub removal takes place, favourable condition can be achieved without it.
