Comment:

The unit continues to decline as no positive management has been carried out to halt or reverse the processes outlined in the previous assessments. The unit is divided into two by the A31 trunk road. The southern part is now completely covered in tall dense conifers with only sparse Molinia and no heathland dwarf shrubs underneath. The hydrology has also been affected by the deep ditch running along the southern boundary. The northern part of the unit is now mainly extremely dense, tussocky Molinia with almost no Cross-leaved heath or heather - the Wet Heath is now species poor Molinia mire. Suitable habitat management including tree clearance and grazing with hardy livestock is required to restore the heathland interest of the unit to favourable condition.
