This information lists the fisheries management measures (regulatory and voluntary) that were in place in English Waters at the start of 2018, that either directly or indirectly help to protect the features of the site. Further information on these management measures and for fisheries management implemented since that date may be available from the MMO or individual Inshore Fisheries and Conservation Authority websites.

Licensable activities within MPAs are subject to the requirements of the Conservation of Species and Habitats Regulations 2017 (as amended), the Conservation of Offshore Marine Habitats and Species Regulations 2017 and / or the Marine and Coastal Access Act 2009. Licensable activities may subject to management measures or conditions as part of their licence. Only Inshore Fisheries Conservation Authority and Marine Management Organisation fisheries byelaws which directly manage MPA features are displayed.

TEMPORARY CLOSURE OF SHELLFISH BEDS

Can put temporary closures to fishing in place. Can protect birds from disturbance or capture by fishing activities. This byelaw enables the Authority to close any shellfish bed which it deems is so severely depleted as to require the cessation of all fishing activity in order to ensure the recovery of the shell fish bed.
